71st World Foundry Congress attracts the international crowds
The WFO is delighted with the response to the 71st World Foundry Congress which was held in Bilbao (Spain) on 19th to 21st May 2014.
Over 1,000 delegates took part in the event, entitled Advanced Sustainable Foundry, from a total of 46 countries. They were treated to three days of technical sessions, a Young Students Seminar, Young Researchers' Programme, Casting Buyers' Forum, industrial visits, international foundry exhibition, social programme and accompanying persons programme. WFO President Vinod Kapur spoke of the "systematic sea-change" in the industry and said: "Now is the time to respond in terms of the search for new products and processes taking into account sustainability and the moral obligation to be environmentally conscious."
Held every two years, the World Foundry Congress provides essential knowledge and gives participants the opportunity to share experiences and network. As part of the event the WFO makes awards to three authors who are deemed to have presented the most outstanding papers during the Congress. The WFO Best Paper Awards are sponsored by Huttenes-Albertus. This year the awards were as follows:
Best Paper Gold Award - Dana Cooper, Fairmount Minerals Ltd, USA for her paper entitled: 'Sustainability is the Key Driver of Innovation'
